##boy’s 4 frightening experiences: parent-inflicted

  1. First time is X’mas2015 piano – 1st time I abused my power to punish boy
  2. 2nd time is “holding both arms out front horizontally”, sometime in P2
  3. 3rd time — wife was infuriated and threw a plastic toy that hit his lip. Dabao was / frightened /, but I believe he knows Mom was annoyed like hell and did it by accident
  4. 4th time — hard slapping on dabao’s lap

In all these incidents, the parent lost his/her cool and the kid felt frightened, over-punished, or even unsafe.

I asked meimei on 1 Jan 2021 Q: which punishment is most uncomfortable? She said

  1. daddy spitting on her
  2. smack on the /butt/ .. mother’s presence is a key prerequisite.
    1. However, many parents lose self-restraint and beating goes out of control. These parents are often over-confident in self-restraint.
  3. kneeling on floor or saw-toothed surface
  4. stand facing the wall .. widely endorsed

Q: which punishment is more scary?

James Madison building’s handyman said “scare your kid” only for education on electricity. I feel “scare her” is not a general approach to discipline.

sizing up strangers: socioeconomic #wellness^nationality

First impression is like judging a book by its cover. In this bpost I’m looking at socioeconomic strata. For better focus, let’s limit to no more than 3 elements:

  • physical wellness [posture, skin, dental] .. 5% ~~> 25% of my assessment
  • educated and sophisticated vocab/articulation/manners .. continues to be 45%
  • implied_nationality/ethnicity/accent .. 50% ~~> 30%, esp. relevant when sizing up Caucasians
  • How about Dress? .. not a factor in itself but often a subtle hint of education, income, and socioeconomic strata. Somehow, dress is rather important in China.

— Caucasians .. Interestingly, when we meet a Caucasian from Latam or Eastern Europe (including Russia), we don’t perceive them as wealthy, sophisticated and privileged.

But hey, how do we know which region she comes from? Nationality is usually unknown, so here I am talking about implied nationality.

I remember meeting some Eastern European professional in Singapore. He talked about the welfare (available to foreigners) while working in Britain.
