Cycling is more fat-burning if
- uphill
- long-distance … as Alex@MS described it. My 45-min trips along west street were still too light
- high-speed as in spin class.
I guess cycling-to-work is still a relatively light-intensity exercise, lighter than jogging, swimming, or walking. I know from experience.
Still, cycling is an enjoyable, easy exercise and much much better than sitting at home. Mass media often portray cycling as a good exercise, but they don’t point out that leisure cycling is “too easy”.
