getting up to speed

Hi XR,

Last Thursday we lost a key consultant, one of the 4 hands-on practioners on the system. 4 including myself!

Now i suddenly realize i have finally come up to a speed close to the remaining 2 experts. This self-assessment is mostly based on
some statistics about emails.

#1 biggest evidence — out of the 100+ emails every day, i now understand more than 67% of the content. 6 months ago, below 33%.

* when we have to read source code to figure things out, my colleagues need average 15 min. (They use source code as documentation!)
My average is 50% longer. 6 months ago, 200% longer ie 3 times slower.

* when i answer a user question, i no longer feel unsure. My answers are incorrect/irrelevnt less often.

* There are 70-100 subsystems, upstream and downstream systems. Many of them i have never supported. Now when an email chain
mentions them, i have confidence to make some comments and i know my comments would probably be relevant.

* I now know what issues do not belong to my team. i now know which teams to forward them, more often than before.

* now i know which incoming questions to forward to our users, and which i can answer.

* Now i don't hesitate

* i am much faster to respond to question directed to my team, about as fast as the other team members. This means i can and do
answer about 15-30% of these questions. 6 months ago i was slower than my colleagues, and therefore couldn't grab even 5% of the
questions before they were answered by colleagues.

* i now spend abou 25% (15-40%) of my hours following email discussions. 6 months ago, even if i spend 70% of my time i couldn't
understand much. i frequently give up trying to follow an important email chain.

* now more people turn to me when they have no one to turn to. becoming a go-to person.
