A fin-IT career in S’pore for me?

Hi,

(This blog is completely self-centered. It might have some informational value to others though.)

I feel in a few years, I WILL end up working in S'pore financial IT.

Now, given my past difficulties in a few large company jobs, I think my best option is a tech lead or architect role. I could change from bank to bank if i don't fit in at a place.

In the US, the consulting career appears somewhat suitable for guys like me, but in S'pore financial IT, overall compensation is clearly better for employees than consultants. I know this from experience and by talking to many people.

One of my far-fetched options is to stay in US and stay as a consultant for the next 5-10 years, but there are many “problems”…

A very tentative idea is Hongkong's financial IT sector. Job opportunities are more (perhaps double) than S'pore; salary significantly higher than S'pore. 30% to 50% higher i guess. HK might solve half of my “problems”…

To move up to tech lead, i feel i should stay current with finance technologies and try to get in-depth with implementation and design. Technologies like threading, messaging, FIX… However, it's not easy, for example, to get into c++, c# and become proficient in them over the next 3 years.
