I feel a little slow compared to other team members.  Not sure if manager feels the same. In a previous team, i too seem to be a little slow for 3-6 months.

I wish I could claim to be an expert on some area. One guy is the Google protocol buffer expert. 2 guys are the C#, WPF experts. In other teams I was once the Unix, Perl and Autosys expert and also an SQL “resource”, but these things are not particularly difficult/complex in this system. Even if I can demonstrate expertise on these areas, I’m paid to do java. My speed (learning, productivity) is hampered by insufficient knowledge on eclipse, spring, protocol buffer … I'm lucky to have non-trivial experience on Sybase, Unix, Aqua data studio, Autosys…

During hiring interview I told the hiring manager (my boss now) that I should be able to become an expert in the team, on some system component perhaps….
