- ! in a chase, bears easily outrun the fastest humans
- if a bear is not chasing you, you should not run. You can walk away slowly, and avoid eye contact.
- if the bear is approaching, stand your ground. Don’t scream or yell. Speak in a soft monotone voice and wave your arms to let the animal know you are human.
- If the animal makes contact, curl up into a ball on your side, or lie flat on your stomach. Try not to panic; remain as quiet as possible until the attack ends.
Those photographers (without a physical protection) are definitely within attack range. In such a case, your life is up to the bear. The animal can easily outrun and overpower even the strongest human.
