[18]lavish spend for comfort+!guilt #cab

Immediately after the long flight on Thanksgiving 2018, in the afternoon, I broke my habit and paid $65 for a 4-hour hotel stay. I then spent $7.50 on LIRR instead of the cheaper subway. Lastly, to avoid catching the cold I spent $8.30 on Uber.

These actions were once frowned upon (hated) as “unnecessary and lavish comfort seeking” , generates self-hate, and demands an explanation report.

  • the $65 hotel stay is worth $300. The amount makes a difference. I wanted to quickly recharge my depleted reserve and rest my weakened body as soon as possible, and don’t need to spend more than the minimum.
  • the $7.50 LIRR should be compared to a $100 taxi ride. $7.50 is a small price to buy myself some 30 minutes of additional commute
  • taxi fare to save my time, my energy, not just some heavy book.

If my kids, aging parents or wife were with me, I would have a convincing justification, since they are more susceptible to fall sick, and I’m stronger. However, those habits of make-do-with-less were suitable when I was younger.

If I fall sick, I could lose billing and incur medical cost.. so the “lavish” spend was insurance premium and health shield …

Let’s add these costs to the “flight” category on Asset.xlsx
